Why focus on doors?

Approximately 40% of all energy leakage comes from the Building Envelope. Door openings represent 11% of the overall energy leakage. Doors provide access, security and, in some cases, exterior light to interior spaces. They are a critical point in the Building Envelope, and need to be insulated, weather stripped and maintained properly .

What is their purpose?

The doors to the Earth Rangers Centre were specified to be an integral part of the architectural design and function of the building. Interior doors keep public spaces separate from animal care areas. Exterior doors allow access during normal hours, and keep the building secure in off hours. Door sweeps, seals, and locks ensure that the building does not waste heat through leakage.

How do our doors make us more sustainable?

The recycled content of doors, frames and hardware from ASSA ABLOY Group brands enable buildings to incorporate complete doorways that help address the materials sections of green building standards. Door and hardware products from ASSA ABLOY feature recycled content rates in excess of 50%. High quality building components last longer, providing a lower Total Cost of Ownership and making less of an environmental impact over their life cycle.

Low U-Value insulated doors can also be used to improve the Building Envelope thermal performance. Used on exterior openings in conjunction with thermal break frames and good quality weatherstripping, these doors provide optimum control of energy used for building heating or cooling.

Our employee entrance is secured with a HES 1006 electric strike with Adams Rite deadlatch. Employees and tenants scan an authorized access card and can disarm the alarm upon entry.

  • Trio-E energy efficient steel stiffened door

    Increase building energy efficiency in any weather condition. The Trio-E door by Fleming, an ASSA ABLOY Group brand, meets and exceeds the requirements to the new energy efficiency supplement, SB-10, to the Ontario Building Code.

    The prescriptive requirements of SB-10 state that exterior opaque swinging doors are required to have a U-value not exceeding 0.4 Trio-E from Fleming Door Products is the only steel stiffened door on the market today that exceeds compliance with the new SB-10 supplement.     Hydraulic Closers Hydraulic closers are an outstanding way to keep your new Besam sliding door equipment latched, operational and weather tight. Concealed hydraulic closers are offered with Besam magnetic catches. Together, they bring a broken out door back closed from any position after breakout, putting your door back in operation automatically. This provides tremendous convenience while allowing you to maintain a weather tight seal that saves you money in heating and cooling costs.

    Insulated Glass Further enhance your air infiltration performance by equipping your Besam automatic sliding door package with insulated glass. A variety of insulated glass thicknesses and U values are available for your door or transom, to help reduce heating and cooling loss in your building.
