What is Security?
A Security system is required to ensure that building occupants are safe and secure. It can restrict access to sensitive areas, provide camera feeds to monitor public spaces and also inform other systems about when the building is being used.
How do we use it?
The Continuum automation system integrates access control, intrusion detection and video monitoring of the building. Animal care areas are accessible only to authorized staff, and Pelcocamera feedspan, tilt and zoom on the parking lot, animal care areas and other public spaces to aid security personnel. The system is integrated with Building Automation, so that when the alarm is armed, all lights in the building can be turned off and the building can be put to “sleep” for off hours.
How does it make us more sustainable?
The Security system acts as an additional input in the control of daily operations. It informs operations staff on when, where and how heavily the building is being used. It allows us to dynamically schedule the building’s time of use – meaning systems that are needed for occupied hours only run when people are actually in the building. This means that our spaces are safer for animals and staff, while at the same time using less energy and resources to accomplish this important task.
