Panoramic view from the south/east corner of our green roof
This Panoramic view of our green roof installation shows the 2 different kinds of green roof installation at the ERC.
In the summer the green roof helps to keep the building cool as water evaporates from the soil.
The plants are drought resistant succulents such as sedums and chives and only watered when it rains. The substrate is lava stone (about 4-6cm thick) - its porosity reduces the weight on the roof and helps to retain moisture.
